Their story
Heng Leong proposed to his sweetheart in Langkawi and she said yes. The romantic and thoughtful Heng Leong wanted a wedding beyond the norm and wanted a romantic once-in-a-lifetime affair for Yann Yann. He then set out to find something legendary, and he stumbled upon the majestic Lili Marleen Yacht. The couple shares with us the story of their legendary wedding.
The venue
The vessel is named after a German love song called ‘Lili Marleen’ which became popular during World War II. At 249 feet in length, the Lili Marleen is a 3-masted barquentine tall ship, built in Elsfleth, Germany in 1994. With over 13,000 sq ft of sail, it is the only of its kind in South East Asia. It accommodates up to 150 people on a day cruise and 50 people overnight in its 25 en-suite cabins.
The theme
“The theme was shades of pink and silver with a tinge of blue. We had pink flowers; and dressed our groomsmen in pink shirts and bridesmaids in blue hues silver dresses. We kept the decorations and floral arrangements to a minimum as the yacht on its own was magnificent and we did not want to destract from its natural rustic look. We just wanted our guests to enjoy the yacht, the sea breeze, of course the key ingredient to any good party – and endless flow of champagne, wine, beer and whiskey.”
The attire
“I tried on many different gowns. I event made a trip to London to check out some of the wedding gowns there. But what they say is true, you’ll know when you know it’s the one. I wanted a gown that was versatile and appropriate for the yacht as well as the wedding dinner. I went to Eleusis, Celine the founder and designer had a 2-in-1 dress which I fell in love with it. I loved every detail of the dress and Celine is excellent! She designed and made the dresses herself. Heng Leong went to Lord’s Tailor to get his grey and charcoal suits done. And we both didn’t see each other’s outfit until the wedding day. That was a part of a pleasant surprise.”
Memorable moments
“it must be the speech by Yuk Meng, one of our groomsmen. We didn’t know he had prepared a speech but fortunately Heng Leong’s brother and wife found out and informed us; and we forced Yuk Meng to deliver it. It made us both tear and laugh at the same time.”
“His description about Heng Leong reminded me exactly of why I married this man. To paraphrase Yuk Meng, Heng Leong is a man who puts his family and friends first; his job second; and himself last.”
