Their story
Tat knew she was the one and 9 months of going out with each other, he proposed to Aina. She said yes. 5 months into the surprised proposal at her favourite restaurant, a night of celebration with close friends and they are married. This is a beautiful wedding story of Aina and Tat.
The wedding
“With all the diferrent cultures between both our families Malay, Chinese, Western we had to incorporate different elements into our receptions. We had the muslim solemnization, the AkadNikah held at the brides home, the Chinese tea ceremony held at the grooms home, the wedding dinner reception held at the JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur, and lastly the intimate beach wedding with close friends and family at The Datai in Langkawi. All the receptions and ceremonies were held over a space of 1 week so there was a lot of planning prior to the madness as we were trying to incorporate the various cultural elements. Our wedding receptions were reflective of who we are, whilst satisfying both sides of the families. So yes, our wedding was our dream wedding.”
The theme
“Theme was an all-white party on the beach. Our décor was simple to embrace the beautiful natural surroundings. We used fresh flowers, mostly white and green/olive. The food was a wide array of seafood and barbecue. We exchanged vows during the sunset and celebrated through the night.”
The attire
“For the wedding dinner at The Datai, I choose Melinda Looi. I wanted modest but elegant for reception and simple and more casual for the beach reception. I got my shoes from Rizalman, London by Gina and by Aruna Seth, a little company in Italy. Tat’s attire was more casual. He wore a white waist coat, over white shirt and pants. We bought the materials for the bridesmaids and groomsmen outfits from Indonesia.”
The preparation
“For the akad nikah, our family members helped to prepare the décor and gifts. Tat’s mother made handmade soaps for the doorgifts. They were all special as they were all unique and different and I just remembered everyone being super happy throughout. When we look back on the photos and videos it was full of laughter.”
The guests
“Our families and friends came from all over the world. We had guests flown in from England, India, Dubai, New Zealand, Australia, Norway, and different parts of Malaysia. We really appreciated the effort and it was great to be able to catch up with everyone.”
The planning process
“We took 5 months to plan our wedding. We learned not sweat the little things as things will go wrong along the way but in the end they always work out. It is important for the bride and groom to relax before the wedding. Outsourcing and delegating tasks definitely helped us a lot. I think it’s also important to keep grounded and realize that as important as it is to have a dream wedding, it is not just about the wedding. The wedding planning process is an important time to build relationships with each other’s families and it’s a great time to get to know each other better. I strongly believe that if you really love each other and want to spend the rest of your lives with that person, your wedding will definitely be a dream come true for you.”
